How does a double shaft paddle mixer work?

The operation of a double shaft paddle mixer can be divided into four stages: feeding, humidifying, mixing, and discharging.

Feeding stage: Dry powdery material is fed quantitatively and evenly into the mixing trough through the inlet.

Humidifying stage: After the material is conveyed to the humidification section, nozzles arranged axially along the top of the casing create a water-mist curtain to dampen the material. Some models allow for the control of the moisture content in the wetted material via a manual adjustment valve on the water supply line.

Mixing stage: The drive mechanism rotates the main spiral shaft—equipped with multiple sets of blades—and uses meshing gears to drive a secondary spiral shaft to rotate synchronously with the main shaft. As the two shafts rotate in unison, their specialized spiral mixing blades evenly turn, blend, and advance the material through the mixing chamber. The material undergoes forced mixing driven by the counter-rotation of the blades on the two shafts, while simultaneously being subjected to shearing and impact forces from multiple directions—top/bottom, left/right, and front/back.

Discharging stage: Once the humidified and mixed material reaches the desired moisture level, it is discharged through the outlet. The equipment supports continuous operation, ensuring the continuity of the production line.
